February 2018

Friday 2nd February | Candlemas Festival | Parents to join the children at Pick Up time

This festival began in ancient times as a Celebration of Light. It is the time when the little candles of the earth, the snowdrops, first appear and animals first begin to come out of hibernation. This is also a traditional time of preparation of the fields for planting in March and this will be reflected in the children's Landwork class this week.

In the children's afternoon Forest School workshop they will melt beeswax over an open fire and make an ‘earth’ candle by pouring the wax into a hole dug in a special spot in the school grounds. At pick up time parents will join the children for tea warmed over the fire surrounded by the beautiful light of the candles the children have made.

Sunday 11th February | Work Day & Pancake Eating! | For the whole Family | 10am – 2pm

We ask each parent to give a minimum of one day a term to help with site maintenance and events. This involvement helps us keep school fees as low as possible, gives you the chance to play an active part in supporting your child at the school and is an excellent way for you to meet people and for us to build a strong community together. During this day we will be tidying the grounds and tending to necessary maintenance. The children are welcome to come and help with the work as well as the pancake eating.

Easter falls during the first weekend of the holidays. However the time leading up to Easter is, nevertheless, a time of preparation, making decorations and painting eggs for our Easter Day Open Day. Spring is in the air as nature around us begins to reawaken. It is a time of death, resurrection and trans-formation, which the Early Years and each class celebrate in age appropriate ways.

On Easter Saturday we will be holding a fundraising Easter Festival with stalls selling plant dyed and hand blown easter egg decorations, felt chicks and easter bunnies, Hot Cross Buns, spring bulbs and much more.
